Joan Bowers
Joan Lois Bowers, 65, died Aug. 11, 2002, at Marion Manor Rehabilitation Center.
She served for 20 years as city clerk of Marion, where she was widely known and highly regarded. Following retirement as city clerk, she became manager of Marion Senior Center.
Born Dec. 12, 1936, at Tampa, she was the daughter of Henry and Olinda (Brunner) Klein.
She married Harold Lee Bowers Jr. Nov. 13, 1955, at Marion. He died in 1975.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Dorcas Society, and Neo-Century Club.
Survivors include her mother, Olinda Klein of Marion; sons Michael and Jock, both of McPherson; daughter Susan Denise Soldner of Garden City; sisters, Arlene Bowers of Marion, Kathleen Goentzel of Marion, and Henrietta Chestnut of Marquette; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion, with the Rev. John A. Ryding officiating. Burial was in Marion Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Brett Powell, Johnathon Bowers, Joshua Bowers, Adam Powell, Will Unruh, and Brandon Bowers.
A memorial fund has been established in her name to benefit Marion City Library.
