Junior varsity defeats Lyons in home opener, 20-12 years ago
The Hillsboro High School junior varsity football team defeated Lyons 20-12 Monday night at home.
The scoring by quarters was Hillsboro 6, 8, 0, 6 = 20 and Lyons 0, 6, 6, 0 =12.
Sophomore Troy Frick scored first for the Trojans on a 15-yard pass from junior quarterback Kyle Kroeker. The extra-point kick was blocked.
Frick scored again in the second quarter on a 15-yard pass from Kroeker. Junior Justin Moore scored the two-point conversion on a pass from Kroeker.
Moore scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a pass from Kroeker. The extra-point kick was no good.
"Our passing game really came through for us," said coach Len Coryea. "The boys came out and played hard."
Frick had six catches for 95 yards and sophomore Michael Suderman carried the ball seven times for 25 yards. Kroeker was nine of 15 in passing with one interception for a total of 162 yards.
The Trojans picked up two interceptions: one from Frick and one from freshman Jacob Yoder.
The Trojans picked up 33 yards in 32 carries compared to Lyons' 67 yards in 25 carries.
Unfortunately, Michael Suderman suffered a leg injury during the game. He had surgery Tuesday morning.
Hillsboro plays at Chapman Monday. Game time is 6 p.m.
