JV hoops team claims summer league title

The Hillsboro junior varsity basketball team took first place in the Central Kansas Summer Basketball League post-season tournament at Hesston College by defeating Marion 48-39.

Six sophomores and two freshmen at Hillsboro High School competed on Tuesday nights during the month of June and early July in the junior varsity boys' division of the summer basketball league at Hesston College.

Other teams in the league included Berean Academy, Goessel, Halstead, Haven, Hesston, Inman, Marion, Moundridge, Remington, Sedgwick, and Hutchinson Trinity.

The team finished the regular season without a loss on the court, although they forfeited two games because of a lack of players. In the post-season tourney, the team defeated Goessel in the first round and No. one seed Haven, in the semi finals.

Members of the team, coached by Dave Kroeker, were sophomores Wade Weibert, Peter Fast, Adam Scheele, Macy Fadenrecht, Tim Funk, and Kyle Kroeker, and freshmen Lucas Hamm and Aaron Stepanek.
