JV tennis team competes in Hillsboro
Members of the Hillsboro girls' junior varsity team hosted a JV tournament last Thursday at the sports complex.
The four schools participated in the meet included Hillsboro-Red, Hillsboro-Gold, Hillsboro-Hesston, Hesston, Lyons, and Sterling.
Hillsboro-Red placed first scoring 34 points, Hillsboro-Gold was second with 28, Hillsboro-Hesston and Hesston were third with 20 each, Lyons was fifth with 12, and Sterling was sixth with six.
Results were as follows: For the Hillsboro-Red team — No. 1 singles r Heather Stepanek of Hillsboro-Red was 1-2 for the day.
No. 2 singles Audrey Weinbrenner was 3-0.
No. 1 doubles team of Chelsey Harmon and Amanda Bartel were 4-0.
No. 2 doubles team of Courtney Fast and Tessa Simpson were 3-0.
For the Hillsboro-Gold team — No. 1 singles player Mallory Blecha was 2-1. No. 2 singles was Amber Loewen 2-1.
No. 1 doubles team of Greta Wiebe and Lauren Just were 3-1.
No. 2 doubles team of Julia Loewen and Alysha Claassen were 3-1.
For the Hillsboro-Hesston team — No. 1 singles player Francesca Bona was 3-0.
No. 2 singles Whitney Allen was 0-3.
No. 2 doubles team of Maria Loewen and Anna Woelk was 1-2.
The JV team competed Tuesday in a triangular meet at home and will compete at 4 p.m. today at Hillsboro Sports complex.
