Karl Ebel
Karl W. Ebel, 77, died Aug. 28, 2005, at his home in Colorado.
Born Dec. 29, 1927, at Hillsboro, he was the son of Arthur and Louise (Schaeffler) Ebel.
He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1945, and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Kansas in 1949 and 1955, respectively.
On April 17, 1949, he married Beverly Weinbrenner at Hutchinson. The following summer he played semi-pro baseball in Nebraska and Iowa.
He taught high school and coached at Winside, Neb., Bloomfield, Neb., and Baxter Springs.
In 1962, he moved to Estes Park, Colo., and taught in the school district there until his retirement in 1987.
During summer months he worked at Rocky Mountain National Park as a trail crew foreman and horse packer.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; and five children, Brad and Brenda Ebel of Denali Park, Alaska, Cameron and Angie Ebel of Carrollton, Va., Diana and Fran Marcoux of Belgrade, Mont., Stephanie and Monte Hurt of Oakley, Utah, and Mollie and Keith Nelson of Mansfield, Texas; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Estes Park, Colo.
Memorial funds have been established with the church, EPMC Hospice of the Estes Valley, or EVRPD Junior Golf Program.
