Katie Dyck Schmidt

Katie Dyck Schmidt, 90, of Goessel died Sept. 25, 2003, at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

Born Jan. 2, 1913, in rural Buhler, she was the daughter of Bernhard C. and Mary (Friesen) Dyck.

On March 6, 1938, at Goessel, she married Isaac "Ike" Schmidt. He died Sept. 18, 1967.

She was a member of First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro and attended the First Mennonite Church in Newton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, working puzzle books, and reading.

She was preceded in death her parents; husband; brothers, Ernest Dyck, Henry Dyck, and Kurt Dyck; and sisters, Ruth Dirks, Bertha Riffel, and Helen Wedel.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Jane Janzen of Walton and Helen K. McMinn of Hillsboro; sons, Jerry W. Schmidt of Hillsboro and Dale K. Schmidt of McPherson; brother, Alvin Dyck of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and sister, Edna Koehn of Hesston.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro with Pastors James Dunn and Verney Unruh, retired Mennonite pastor of North Newton, officiating.

Burial was at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Memorials have been established with Bethesda Home and Central Homecare and Hospice.
