Koons, Geis take BOE seats
Rod Koons and Debbie Geis each defeated their opponents in Tuesday's USD 410 board of education general election.
Koons, who was running against Gary Andrews for the District 7 seat, defeated Andrews 299-145. District 7 is an at-large position that covers the entire Durham-Hillsboro-Lehigh district.
In District 1, incumbent Debbie Geis defeated Alex Blecha 54-4. District 1 covers rural Durham.
Also winning BOE seats Tuesday were Dale Klassen and Mark Rooker. Rooker and Klassen each ran unopposed.
In city elections, Mayor Delores Dalke was re-elected after running unopposed. Also winning city seats were Len Coryea, west ward city council member, and Matt Hiebert, east ward city council member. Coryea and Hiebert ran unopposed.
At Goessel, Duane Duerksen, Racquel Thiesen, and James Wiens were named to the city council. Richard Drake, Maynard Knepp, Dan Miller, and Mary Rosfeld were elected to the school board.
Glennon Crowther was re-elected mayor at Durham with Ben Goertz, Verlin Sommerfeld, Gary Unruh, and Reinhold Winter on the council.
Diane Johnson was elected to the Lehigh City Council.
In the Marion-Florence school board race, challenger Sarah Cope of Florence defeated incumbent Doug Sharp 695-99 Tuesday for the position at large on the USD 408 board of education.
In the Cottonwood Valley Drainage district election three members were elected: Don Burkholder 109, John Hett 104, and Willard Hett 95.
Nathen Bailey was elected mayor of Ramona with Judith Gratz, Lola Harold, Jeanette Weber, and Pat Wick to council.
Jim Clemmer was re-elected mayor of Tampa and members of the council selected were Paul Backhus, Wilbert Backhus, Reuben Kerbs, Tom Leihy, and Tim Svoboda.
Tom Grimwood was elected mayor of Burns with Mark Brunhoeber, Steve Cheuvront, Fritzie Hatfield, Cecilia Kennedy, and Mark Steward to the council.
Ramona had the highest percentage of people voting. Overall turnout was good for a school board election. All votes were tabulated by 9 p.m. at the courthouse where a scant crowd gathered to view results.
Official results will be announced Friday when the county commission canvasses ballots.
