Tuesday the Goessel girls played at Berean and defeated the Warriors 70-32. The Bluebirds took a commanding 13-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and continued to build on their advantage.

Every player scored, and according to coach Brian Holloway it was an unusual event to have all nine girls on the team score.

Goessel's defense played a big factor in frustrating the Berean team.

Scoring for the team were Tara Goerzen with 17 points, Lindsey Unruh with 14, Melinda Stucky nine, Brittany Goerzen and Carolyn Unruh with eight each, Darla Funk with seven, Candice Bailey three, and Jessica Graber and Becky Schroeder with two each.

On Friday, Goessel defeated Central Christian 48-43. Goessel led the whole first quarter, but Central tied the game 14-14 and went on to take the lead.

There were six lead changes in the game as Goessel would not lead by more than seven and Central would not be ahead by more than three points.

With 4:38 to play in the game, Goessel nursed a 38-37 lead. Graber scored four of her six points late in the game. Schroeder came up with a steal and was fouled. Stucky scored her 25th point inside to give the Bluebirds a 44-39 lead with 51 seconds to play.

Scoring for the team were Stucky with 25 points, T. Goerzen with nine, Graber six, Unruh four, and B. Goerzen and Candice Bailey with two each.

The girls' record is now 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Goessel will celebrate homecoming on Friday against Trinity. The girls will not have games next week.
