Lady Bluebirds now 5-0

The Goessel High School girls' varsity basketball team defeated Mankato by a score of 52-36. The Bluebirds began to pull away after halftime, but the Cougars closed the gap to one point with four minutes to play in the third quarter.
From that point on Goessel controlled the rebounds and got high percentage shots to gradually build a 19-point lead late in the game.
Scoring for the Bluebirds were Melinda Stucky with 18 points, Tara Goerzen with 14, Lindsey Unruh with six, Carolyn Unruh with four, Brittany Goerzen and Darla Funk with three each, and Jessica Graber and Becky Schroeder with two each.
On Saturday, Goessel gradually extended a 10-point halftime lead to 17 points in the fourth quarter, but the scrappy Minneapolis team outscored the Bluebirds 14-4 during the part of the fourth quarter, bringing in the Goessel lead to 51-44.
The Bluebirds did a job of breaking the Lions' pressing defense late in the game and ended with a 56-45 win.
Scoring for the Bluebirds T. Goerzen with 21 points, Stucky with 18, L. Unruh, six, B. Schroeder, four, Graber with three, and Candice Bailey and B. Goerzen with two each.
On Tuesday, the Bluebirds jumped out to a 32-14 lead in the second quarter, but Inman would get within four points several times in the fourth quarter. However, Goessel was able to hold on for their fifth win of the season with a final score against the Teutons of 49-42.
Scoring for the Bluebirds were Stucky with 23 points, followed by L. Unruh with nine, T. Goerzen with eight, B. Goerzen with seven, and Funk with two.
