Lady Bluejays enjoy perfect week

With two games left before the midseason break, the Lady Bluejays appear to be in the process of revamping their game.

Tabor (8-10, 5-2 KCAC) picked up a trio of much needed victories beginning Sept. 28 at McPherson, making short work of the Lady Bulldogs, 30-13, 30-19, and 30-21.

Erin Loewen and Staci Whitcomb spearheaded the offense with 11 kills each and Jill Hein adding nine.

Anne Gunden had 46 assists. Whitcomb led the defensive charge with 13 digs, Hein and Loewen added 10 each, and Gunden contributing seven. Hein closed out the night with a team-high three blocks.

Two days later in Sterling, the Warriors went down in three to Tabor, 30-15, 30-25, and 30-26.

Loewen and Lindsay Vogts combined for 22 kills with Whitcomb adding 10 and a team-high 10 digs.

"This was a great week of volleyball for us," Bluejay coach Amy Ratzlaff said. "I believe the women really cleaned up their ball game and played solid this week."

The Bluejays capped off the perfect week Saturday in Hillsboro, disposing of the St. Mary Lady Spire, 30-20, 30-17, and 30-19.

Whitcomb put the finishing touches on the week that earned her KCAC Player-of-the-Week with a team-high 13 kills and 17 digs.

Hein had four blocks to go along with three aces while Traci Neufeld contributed four aces.

"We made much better decisions on the court this week and our offense found a much better rhythm," said Ratzlaff. "Our passing has really improved.

"I credit this improvement to the women for their hard work this last week in practice. Every day we need to keep working to perfect excellence on the court."

The Bluejays closed out the first half of the season Tuesday in Lindsborg against the Bethany Lady Swedes before wrapping it up at 7 p.m. tonight at Southwestern in Winfield.

Tabor also will be in action at 10:30 a.m. Saturday for the alumni game.
