Lady Jay spikers win third consecutive

Since having their perfect KCAC record go up in smoke Sept. 29 to nemesis Bethel, the Lady Bluejays have stayed hot to keep pace with the Lady Threshers.

On Saturday, the Bluejays (10-10, 7-1 KCAC) fought off a valiant effort from the visiting Kansas Wesleyan Lady Coyotes, winning the match in four games.

The Bluejays downed the Coyotes the first and second sets, respectively, 30-25, and 30-20.

But KWU forced a fourth game, holding off the Bluejays 31-29 in the third game. Tabor won the fourth and deciding game, 30-21.

Traci Neufeld had six ace serves and Anne Gunden added four to go along with her team-high 25 assists and 15 digs defensively. Audrey Schellenberg had 20 assists.

Staci Whitcomb spearheaded the Bluejay defense with 18 digs and 20 kills. Shannon Kroeker and Lindsey Vogts each added nine kills with Jill Hein chipping in eight.

Hein also had 17 digs, Gunden had 15 and Jo Love followed with 10.

Two days earlier in Hillsboro, the Bluejays made short work of the Friends Lady Falcons, winning the match with 30-18, 30-21, and 30-25 victories.

The Bluejays opened the week Oct. 4 at home, sweeping the Ottawa Lady Braves with 30-18, 30-13, and 30-28 scores.

Tabor traveled Monday night to McPherson for a match with the Lady Bulldogs before making a long road trip to Leavenworth Thursday to take on the St. Mary Lady Spires at 7 p.m.

Results of Monday's action was unavailable at press time.
