The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Then again, some things never seem to change.
Like the Lady Trojan softball team's luck anytime they bump into the Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans.
SES is a team that has made a habit of ending the Trojans' season one game shy of reaching their first ever-Class 3A state softball tournament.
Before Tuesday night's final game of the Hillsboro Regional Softball Tournament at the sports complex, SES has been the cause of three straight Trojan heartbreaks.
Make it four in row after SES held the Trojans to just three hits en route to beating them to a state tournament bid, 5-1.
Hillsboro's season tragically ends at 15-7.
Ever since SES first knocked the Trojans out of contention for a state tournament berth their freshman year in 1999, seniors Julie Wall and Holly Lindsay have been waiting to get their hands on SES.
Coach Carolyn Long has spent plenty of time wondering what it takes to beat SES.
After Tuesday, seniors Wall, Lindsay, Emily Donahue, Robyn Penner, and Shelby Estelle will end high school 0-4 against SES, all four coming at the same time of the season.
"It's a major disappoint for us," Wall said. "Losing four times to them is hard."
Playing in her final game, Wall supplied Hillsboro with one of its three hits, a single when all hope was gone in the top of the seventh.
