Lady Trojans extinguish Dragons' fire
The Lady Trojans had little trouble Friday with first-year softball program and host Halstead.
Hillsboro got out of the gates in a hurry to cruise to 5-2 and 19-4 victories for a clean sweep of the Lady Dragons.
Danielle Goossen went 2-for-4 in the opener, scoring two runs and an RBI while Amy Duerksen finished 2-for-3 with a run and another RBI.
Marissa Diener tossed a six-hitter while fanning eight Dragons.
Halstead starter Ashley Douglas had an avalanche fall on her in the late game's first two innings as the Trojans made short work of the Dragons.
Douglas spotted Hillsboro five runs in the first and 10 in the second while the Trojans conjured up just two hits.
Laura Lindsay threw a four-hitter through five innings, punching out six batters.
The Trojans ran their winning streak to eight games and their record to 10-2 Tuesday with a sweep of the visiting Smoky Valley Lady Vikings.
Diener opened the first game on the mound, tossing a no-hit 14-0 shutout to make for quick disposal of the Vikings.
Hillsboro again made short work of Smoky Valley in the finale, blowing the game open in the fourth inning for a 12-2 win.
The Trojans travel Friday to Inman for a 4:30 p.m. meeting with the Lady Teutons.
Hillsboro gets Tuesday off before facing the Haven Wildcats April 30 in Haven.
