Lady Trojans get first victory of season

Hiebert wins first as Hillsboro throttles Chaparral

First-year Hillsboro High School Lady Trojan basketball coach Nathan Hiebert can finally relax.

Despite the fact his season opened with two straight losses, he and the Trojans are off the starting blocks.

Hillsboro got a balanced scoring attack Saturday to upend the Chaparral Lady Roadrunners, 46-28, for fifth place at the Cardinal Classic in Cheney.

Dakota Kaufman scored a game-high 14 points, Amanda Faber had 13, and Kassidi Luthi furnished 12 as the Trojans (1-2) blew the lid off early, cruising to an 18-3 lead.

Hillsboro slowed down the second quarter as the Roadrunners pulled to 23-11 by halftime.

Any chance of Chaparral staying in the game went out the window the third quarter with the Trojans sprinting away for 14 unanswered points while holding the Roadrunners scoreless.

The Trojans travel Friday to play Nickerson, while their scheduled game Tuesday against Halstead was canceled due to inclement weather.
