The Hillsboro softball team proved its supremacy in Marion County Friday, sweeping the Marion Lady Warriors, 11-7 and 4-2 in miserable, gusty winds.
The sweep lifted the Trojans' record to 5-4 after double losses to Hoisington and Smoky Valley.
After traveling Tuesday to Sterling, Hillsboro is at home at 4:30 p.m. Friday against Lyons.
Against Marion, the Warriors were ahead, 2-0, before Hillsboro cashed in on five Warrior errors in the third, to take a 4-2 lead.
The Trojans smacked five hits in the bottom of the fourth, to extend their lead to 8-2.
Marion made a late surge, cutting the lead down to 8-6, but Hillsboro was able to pad its lead and hang on for the win.
The second game was scoreless until the bottom half of
the fifth, when Hillsboro pushed the deciding four runs across the plate, two of them from a line-drive triple by Laura Lindsay.
Hillsboro pitcher Jenesa Klose had a one-hitter going through five innings, but Marion sawed the lead in two with two
runs coming in its last at-bat from a trio of hits.
Marion had runners on base with two outs in the final at-bat, but Klose forced Marion to ground-out to shortstop Amanda Bina, ending the rally, and the game.
