Lady Trojans shut out Lyons
The Lady Trojans traveled to Lyons on Friday to make up a game canceled because of weather. The game was originally scheduled for April 2.
The doubleheader was worth the wait for the Trojans — they had an amazing night, shutting out the Lions 10-0 in both games.
Game one went down in five innings, thanks to a powerful outing by pitcher Holly Lindsay. Lindsay threw a no-hitter while striking out eight and giving up no walks. It was three up and three down in every inning for the Lions.
On the Hillsboro side of the scoring column, things went quite smoothly. Robyn Penner started off the game with a single to get the team on base.
Penner advanced through outs by batters Lindsay and Emily Donahue. When Emily Ratzlaff got on base after a first baseman error, Penner came in for the Trojans' first run of the day.
They struck again in the third inning. With two outs, Lindsay hit a double and Donahue got on base after she was hit by a pitch. Ratzlaff and Julie Wall drove in the two runners to make the score 3-0.
The Trojans would score seven more times by the fifth, giving them the 10-0 win and ending the game due to the ten-run rule.
Game two saw the Trojans win by the same score, but this time with Marissa Diener on the mound. Diener had a solid performance, striking out five, walking one, and giving up three hits — but no runs.
After Hillsboro scored two runs in the first, three runs in the third, four runs in the fourth, and one run in the fifth, the game was again called because of the ten-run rule. Hillsboro had the 10-0 win.
