Large cast to participate in "Sound of Music"

Goessel High School Department of Music will present Rogers and Hammerstein's classic, "The Sound of Music" under the direction of Greg Bontrager at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 17.

All members of the 80-voice high school choir will be involved in some aspect of the production.

The musical takes the audience through the true-life story of Maria von Trapp from the Salzburg Abbey to becoming the von Trapp nanny. She later marries Capt. von Trapp. When Austria is annexed to Hitler's Germany, they escape with seven children to freedom over the Alpine Mountains.

The beloved songs from this musical have become part of our culture due to the award-winning movie starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. This show is truly a classic, and the music makes the audience want to sing along.

A music review of the show will be presented at 9 a.m. Nov. 13 to Newton's Northridge Elementary School and Goessel Elementary School.
