Lehigh native honored as master editor by KPA

At the president's banquet and special awards ceremony Friday during the Kansas Press Association's annual convention in Junction City, Pete Goering, executive editor of the Topeka Capital-Journal, received the Clyde M. Reed Jr. Master Editor Award.

After growing up in Lehigh and graduating in 1966 as a member of the last senior class at Lehigh High School, Goering has spent his entire life in the newspaper industry.

He has been associated with the Topeka Capital-Journal since 1972. He began as a sports writer, became sports editor in 1983, and was named executive editor and/or managing editor of the newsroom three times between 1983 and 2004.

Goering is a five-time winner of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association award and three times was named Kansas Sports Writer of the Year by the Kansas Press Association.
