Lehigh receives $370,000 grant years ago

The City of Lehigh was among 13 Kansas cities that will share more than $5 million in water and sewer grants through the Community Development Block Grant program.

The City of Lehigh will receive $369,595 in grant funds toward a $400,000 project that will rehabilitate and expand the existing three-cell sewer treatment system.

The city will contribute $38,216.

Other cities that received grant awards through CDBG program were Baxter Springs, Burlingame, Circleville, Columbus, Hartford, Lecompton, Medicine Lodge, Neosho Rapids, Onaga, Stockton, Westmoreland, and Wilson.

The grant application was based on community surveys that indicated at least 51 percent of the residents had low to moderate incomes.

The CDBG program provides federal funding to communities to address development and infrastructure needs.
