Leonard Carlson
Leonard Merrill Carlson, 81, died March 30, 2003, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Born Aug. 8, 1921, on the home place near Elsmore, he was the son of Eric Leonard and Julia Eveline (Swanson) Carlson.
He attended schools in Elsmore and graduated from Elsmore High School in 1939, where he was a softball pitcher on his high school team.
On June 5, 1955, he married Florence Mae Krone at Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg. She survives.
He was a retired farmer. He was a life long member of Friends Home Lutheran Church and served several years on the church board.
He was a 35-year charter member of the Elsmore Ruritan Club. He was also a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge of Savonburg, Virginia Lodge 315, and was a Past Master.
He was interested in politics and served as a Republican committeeman for 25 years.
He enjoyed sports and trout fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Carlson of Hillsboro, Anna Marie Prockish of Lindsborg, and Sarah Banister of Iola; son, Eric Carlson of Manhattan; sisters, LaVonne Atteberry, LaVance Johnson, and LaDelle Cunningham, all of Elsmore; and 11 grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday at Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg, with Rev. Colin Ward officiating. Burial was at Elsmore Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the church.
