To the Editor:

As a husband of a Hillsboro Elementary School teacher, the father of three sons who graduated from Hillsboro High School, and a current member of the Tabor College board of directors, I obviously have a personal interest in the USD 410 bond election on Tuesday. However, as a business and homeowner in Hillsboro, I can think of no better investment in the future of our city than to support the education of its children and youth.

A "yes" vote for Tuesday's USD 410 bond election is important for the current economic development of our community. Refurbishing of the AMPI building will present a new "front door" to Hillsboro and functional administrative facilities at a reasonable price.

Expansion of the elementary school will provide additional classroom space, a new commons area, and improved safety for children. Upgrading the science laboratories in the high school are essential to give teachers and students the learning environment needed in today's high-tech world.

Hillsboro High School's athletic teams are the focal point of many of the largest community gatherings in our city. Expanded locker rooms and weight training facilities at the high school and a new football/track complex will be improvements all of us will appreciate.

A "yes" vote for Tuesday's bond election is also vital for Hillsboro's economic future. Strong schools are essential to equip future community leaders, attract new families to rural communities, and enhance the quality of life for local citizens.

We all take pride in our community when we see progress. A new church, dental office, apartment complex, student townhouses, as well as the widening of Adams Street currently are under construction in Hillsboro. Let's continue to keep Hillsboro a progressive city. Vote "yes" for the USD 410 bond election Tuesday.
