Letters to the editor

To the Editor:

Please consider my comment about Jane Vajnar's piece in last week's Marion County Record, "Why I Will Vote No."

After having carefully studied the "marriage amendment," then reading a host of opinions published in dailies, weeklies, and journals — plus hearing hours of debate on talk radio and viewing nearly countless spots on TV newscasts — I was very impressed by Vajnar's piece on the editorial page.

She manages to capture the essence of this hotly contested subject in both a personal and critically analytical fashion, and it is disarmingly readable. There is little more to say than this; she certainly expresses my personal conviction, helping assure my vote.

To the Editor:

"I have set before you life and death, now choose life so that you and your children may live." Deuteronomy 30:19.

America has been choosing death over life. Abortion rather than life, death through drugs, death through alcohol, death through rock music, and death through gangs.

Now comes homosexuality or sodomy, the sin that bears the AIDS plague. Will America again choose death over life? Sodomy is a sin. So is stealing, lying, or gossip. The church gossip will walk the same hell as the sodomite. Sin is sin.

Let's look at Biblical scripture.

"Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." Romans 1:22, 25, 26, 27.

"The fool says in his heart, there is no God." Psalms 53:1.

This describes America today. We consider ourselves so intellectual, so smart, but we are as fools. Instead of God's truth, we choose the lie. We are following the foolish thinking of secular humanist intellectuals who say: "There are no moral absolutes of right or wrong, do whatever feels good to you."

Another scripture says, "Although they know that God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them." Romans 1:32.

It doesn't matter if judges approve of sodomy, it doesn't matter if governors approve of sodomy, or if TV news media and newspapers approve of sodomy and even call for special protection for them, it doesn't matter how many liberal preachers may applaud them, God says that sodomy is sin and that it is an abomination and God's word is what counts.

Yes, the Bible does talk about sodomy. Very graphically. Or call it homosexuality if you want. "If a man lies with a man as one lies with woman, both of them have done what is an abomination." Leviticus 18:22. Abomination is an absolute worst kind of sin. In fact, sodomy is a capital offense. "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman..they must be put to death, their blood will be on their own heads," Leviticus 20:13.

You will not find in the Bible that God approves of sodomy as a alternate lifestyle. God's word addresses the issue directly. Secular humanists hate the word of God because it establishes absolutes of moral, spiritual, and social conduct. They don't want anyone telling them right or wrong. God describes the physical act in detail so there is no mistake of what He was talking about. The word sodomite is in the dictionary: "one guilty of sodomy, an unnatural sex crime."

Will the sodomites be satisfied with social recognition or is there a more aggressive agenda? Genesis 19 reveals a case study of their conduct. Verse 1, "Two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them. 'My lords, please turn aside to your servants house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way in the morning'." Verse 4, "Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom, both young and old, surrounded the house. They called out to Lot, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight. Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.' Lot went outside to meet with them and shut the door behind him and said, 'Don't do this wicked thing. Don't do anything to these men for they have come under the protection of my roof.' 'Get out of our way,' they replied. 'We'll treat you worse then them. They kept bringing physical pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door."

Several important lessons need to be learned here. It was the original Gay Pride parade. They marched from all parts of the city, ended up on Lot's private property, threatened his property, threatened Lot physically, and demanded he surrender his house guests to them for sex. The sodomites violated Lot's property rights. They physically threatened Lot and were going to break down the door to his home and enter forcibly to sexually abuse his guests. Folks that's aggressive conduct. Then God judged them and struck them with blindness.

If you think God tolerates sodomy, read for yourself the judgment of God upon Sodom. The only thing that matches the love of God is the wrath of God. America, you better read up on it. You're about to see it.

I recently read the outline of the homosexual agenda and its threat to Christian Americans. Portions of it said this: "We have come out and exposed the mean spirited nature of Christianity; you are narrow minded and self righteous. We are going to force you to recant everything you have ever believed or said about sexuality. You will be expected to affirm the following demands, as you renounce love, marriage, and family.

"You will speak of homosexuality in your churches as an honorable lifestyle. You will let us marry people of the same sex or abolish marriage completely since it is a lie. You will bless our sexual arrangements. You will instruct your youth in homosexual behavior. If any of the older people object, deal with them sternly, making certain they suffer public humiliation. You will made certain all the resources of your institutions are brought to bear against the community, so that laws are passed favorable toward homosexuals.

"We will remove passages from your scriptures and we will rewrite others using words preferential to homosexual interpretation. We will adopt children. School sex education will be revised to show homosexuals as normal. Teachers will be hired who approve of homosexuality and/or are homosexuals themselves. If all these things do not happen quickly, we will subject Jews and Christians to sustained hatred."

These are threats and they are real.

Sodomites justify their lifestyle in genetics. It's in my genes, born this way and I have no choice. What a lie. To believe that kind of logic would be to believe, "My dad had a temper, it's in my genes, so I get mad and beat up or kill people. It's not my fault, I have no choice." Or, "My mom stole, so I steal. It's not my fault, it's in my genes." You can be and are responsible for actions. Bad decisions have consequences.

I want to close now with help for those who are caught in a lifestyle of sodomy and don't know how to get away from it. The Bible says when you come to Christ, you change and you get help. II Corinthians 5:17.

You get good friends, good habits, good attitudes. A new mind, a new heart, and a name written down in glory. "Whoever confesses and renounces his sins finds mercy." Proverbs 28:13.

God loves you, the person, but He will not accept your lifestyle of sin. You must follow Jesus and change, and then there will be pardon and forgiveness for sin. There are many Bible preaching, loving churches that minister to you and help you escape the life of sodomy. But clearly understand that the line is drawn. God says that sodomy or homosexuality is a sin. Christians have to live by God's law, not society's legalism. Wake up America.

To The Editor:

I read Jane Vajnar's article on voting no.

I agree with you 100 percent. People who were born with feeling that way, what right should we have to deny them the happiness of marriage if they keep it private and personal. That should be strictly between them and their God.

We should be very concerned about our record on marriages — more than 50 percent fail. Nothing is private. Young kids going all the way from one to the other. Will they be happy with only one partner after marriage? I doubt it.

Some only last 30 days, some went through six mates. Rotten TV doesn't help. If we saw in the park what we see on TV, someone would go to jail.

Now let's talk about how it was in my teens. You didn't hear of anyone getting in trouble, making love that only belonged to married people, and one couple lasted for years.

In my case, Mildred Holub and I were married Oct. 14, 1941, by Father Kapaun at Pilsen. Last October we were married 63 years. When we got married it was the first and most important, personal agreement we made, taking our vows.

Mildred is a patient at Kansas Christian Nursing Home. On one day each month they have a party for those who have birthdays that month. They knew our wedding anniversary is in October and asked us if we would repeat our vows at the party. We agreed, so they brought a church minister to perform the vows and we said our "I dos."

To The Editor:

It is clear our community cares about others. Eighty-four people (which included five first-time donors) came in to donate blood at the American Red Cross blood drive on March 28.

In addition to the citizens who generously came in to give blood, there were 18 people who worked behind the scenes to make the blood drive a success. Thank you to everyone who made a lifesaving impact on others through their contributions.

Our next drive is Aug. 2, 2005.

Sincerely,

Agatha Duerksen
