Library Update: More than 60 participate in summer reading program years ago
This year's summer reading program New Trails at the library was a success with a total of 67 youngsters from preschool age and up participating. Those attending enjoyed "Animals along the Trail."
This was special programming by Deb Hiebert and included lots of "touchables" and information about animals that would have been found in Kansas along the trails. Youngsters also enjoyed reading for prizes and for the raffle. There were a variety of raffle prizes this year including Coleman donated coolers, backpacks, T-shirts, and more.
The third through fifth graders group had a sleep-over at the library. They watched a movie, ate pizza and popcorn, played games, tested our knowledge of books with a Jeopardy-like game, and of course, read.
All activities, prizes, and refreshments were provided by local businesses. Thank you to Abraham's Engine Service and Supply, Citizens State Bank, Crossroads Credit Union, Dirksen Construction, Flatland Food Distribution, Miller's Funeral Home, the Permanent Solution, and the Goessel Recreation Commission.
Pre-school story time begins
The library's pre-school storytime will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 3 at the library. Story time will run 30-45 minutes, depending on activities. If there is no public school due to weather cancellations or holidays, there will be no story time.
Children under the age of three will need to have an adult sit with them. Story time is free to the public. For more information, call 367-8440.
Adult reading raffle
During August and September adult patrons (18 and older) will receive one entry ticket for every book they read or heard (audiobooks) from the library. A drawing will be held by the library staff on Oct. 1 for a Coleman cooler. The library issues a challenge to its adult readers: youngsters read approximately 1383 books from June through July, let's see how many books the adults can read.
