Linda Klassen
Linda (Hiebert) Klassen, 93, died Dec. 18, 2002, at the Hillsboro Community Medical Center in Hillsboro.
Born Jan. 1, 1909, at rural Goessel, she was the daughter of Peter E. and Aganetha (Schmidt) Hiebert.
She was the fourth of nine children.
On June 5, 1927, she was baptized by Rev. Peter H. Unruh upon her confession of faith and was received into membership of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in rural Goessel.
After the death of their parents, the children were separated and lived in various homes in the community.
She cooked, cleaned, washed and ironed for families, as well as worked as a telephone switchboard operator until her marriage.
On Dec. 18, 1930, at rural Goessel, she married Otto Klassen. He died on Jan. 2, 1995, at age 94.
The couple lived on a farm west of Goessel. They lived there until June 1964, when they moved back to her family Springfield homestead. They lived there for nearly 30 years.
They later moved to Sunflower Villa. After the death of her husband, she lived there for seven more years.
The summer of 2002, she became a resident of HCMC LTCU until her death.
She was preceded in death by her son, Carl Klassen on Aug. 19, 2002; brothers, Rudolph and Adolph; and sisters, Margaret Woelk, Agnes Flaming, Anna Schmidt, and Helen Jantz..
Survivors include son Clarence and wife Martha Klassen of Livermoore, Colo.; sisters, Susie Lohrentz of Newton and Hilda Ratzlaff of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Saturday, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in rural Goessel with Pastor James Dunn officiating. The remains were donated to the University of Kansas willed body program.
A memorial has been established with the Agape Senior Center in Goessel.
