Linda Schmidt

Linda Schmidt, 89, of Hillsboro died Feb. 7, 2002, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center Long Term Care Unit.

Born Nov. 5, 1912, in rural Hillsboro, she was the daughter of Jacob F. and Elizabeth (Rempel) Funk. On April 12, 1934, she married Adolf Schmidt in rural Hillsboro. She was a housewife and a member of First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.

Survivors include her husband of Hillsboro; sons Richard of Topeka, Eddie of South Hutchinson and Leroy of Topeka; daughter Ruth Ann Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers Aruther H. Funk of Hillsboro and Karl F. Funk of rural Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elma Bartel.

Services were Feb. 11 at First Mennonite Church with Pastor Ken Peterson officiating. Burial was at Haven of Rest Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

A memorial has been established with First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.

Donald Weyand

Donald W. Weyand, 71, Independence, died Feb. 1, 2002.

Graveside services were held Feb. 5 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Elk City, with the Rev. Gerald Eytcheson officiating. Full military rites were presented from Fort Riley.

Weyand was born March 26, 1930, in Hillsboro, to Harry and Daisy (Loewen) Weyand.

He graduated from Lehigh High School and McPherson College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 then worked for Burrough's Corporation in Wichita, Garden City, and Independence from 1953 to 1987.

On Dec. 17, 1965, he married Opal Wiltfong Wilson at Sapulpa, Okla.

He was a member of the Mennonite church in Lehigh, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge, and the American Legion.

In addition to his wife, other survivors include a daughter, Pamela Daniels of Elk City; brother, Loren Weyand of Frisco, Texas; sister, Vera Plenert of Stanley; and a grandson.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
