Lions blank Trojan JV in season opener
The Hillsboro Trojan junior varsity football season got off to a rough start Monday night in Lyons with the Lions shutting out Hillsboro in a defensive battle, 8-0.
The Lions pulled ahead 2-0 in the second quarter on a safety and added a touchdown in the fourth to preserve the win, getting it all done on the ground.
Meanwhile, nine penalties for 75 yards and two turnovers kept the Hillsboro offense at bay.
"Our highlights were on defense, where our tackling was reasonably sharp," Trojan coach Darrell Knoll said. "Penalties on every long run we had hurt our offense."
Defensively, Michael Scheele lead the charge with three solo tackles and nine assisted. Tyler Jones picked up two solo and seven assisted.
Daniel Jost completed three of 18 for 89 yards with two passes going to Dustin Strunk, who had 74 yards.
Jost also lead the ground attack with six carries for 19 yards.
The Trojans will be looking for their first win of the season Sept. 12 when they host Chapman at 6 p.m.
