Two Hillsboro businesses were honored June 15 at an awards ceremony at Burns Community Building.

Golden Heritage Foods and Country Haven Inn were recognized for their contributions to the community and state economy as part of Kansas Business Appreciation Month.

Golden Heritage Foods was the winner of the regional achievement award in manufacturing for South Central Kansas. The region encompasses 14 counties, and according the Megan Kilgore, director of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, they were one of approximately 230 applicants.

"It's a big deal," said Kilgore. "It means they were among the top 10 companies that were in the running for the Governor's Award for Excellence."

Country Haven Inn was honored with a retail merit award for its support of activities at the local schools and college and contributions to Hillsboro Family Folk Festival, Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Marion County, and local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.
