Local woman wins car at state fair

Sharon Chamberlain of rural Hillsboro will be given a 2002 Ford Thunderbird on Sept. 28-29 at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City,
Chamberlain won the car in the Kansas Lottery second chance drawing at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. Chamberlain's ticket was drawn from approximately 75,360 entries.
Chamberlain said, "I knew I had won the car. But I later found out that it was a packaged deal — all the sales tax, withholding taxes, tags, title are all included. We won't have to pay for anything."
"That was a big relief," Chamberlain said. "So now all we have to do is go pick up the car," she said.
Chamberlain said the total package is around $59,000.
Chamberlain and her husband Donald both work in Newton. They were given tickets to the Kansas Speedway and will go pick up the car Saturday.
"We'll drive it to work for the first days," she said, "then we'll park it, and I'll just look at it and wonder if it is real — I just can't believe it."
Another Kansas Lottery winner from Hillsboro was Annette King who won $2,000. She had purchased her winning ticket at Ampride in Hillsboro.
Chamberlain said King was congratulating her on winning the car. Chamberlain in turn offered her congratulations to King. King did not know she had won the money until Chamberlain told her.
