Louis Goertz
Louis H. Goertz, 83, of North Newton, died May 2, 2002, at Newton Medical Center in Newton.
Born Sept. 2, 1918, at Borden, Saskatchewan, he was the son of Henry and Anna (Tilitzsky) Goertz. He married Edna Agnes Sawatsky on June 6, 1943, at Virgil, Ontario, Canada. She survives of Kidron-Bethel Village in North Newton.
He was a pastor, serving churches in Tampa; Henderson, Neb.; Dallas, Ore.; Ritzville, Wash.; Beatrice, Neb.; Topeka and Freeman, S.D. Since his retirement, he has served as an interim pastor in a number of churches in the Newton area. He was a member of Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton.
Survivors include his wife; son, LeRoy Goertz of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Rosalie Miller of Olathe, Betty Odgaard of Grimes, Iowa, and Charlotte Nickel of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, Canada; brothers, Menno Klassen and Ben Klassen, both of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada; sisters, Hulda Duerksen of Sasatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Eva Enns of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 5, 2002, at Shalom Mennonite Church with Pastor Eric Massanari officiating.
Memorials have been established with Kidron-Bethel Village and Alzheimer's Care Fund.
