LuElla Jost
LuElla Reimer Jost, 88, of Hillsboro, died Feb. 27, 2002, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.
Born Nov. 8, 1913, in rural Hillsboro, she was the fifth child of John J. and Marie (Ratzlaff) Reimer.
On Nov. 9, 1930, at the First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro, she married John F. Jost. They made their first home in the Adobe House. He died in March of 1999.
While the couple lived in the Adobe House, their son Jerry was born.
In 1946, they had a farm sale and moved to Hillsboro to operate the service station.
In 1955, they built a new home on South Main, where Lowell and Twilla were born.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed planting a big garden and baking and cooking.
She was a member of Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro and active in the Women's Mission Society. She helped stitch many quilts and also served on the decorating committee.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling to the different states to attend Christian Businessmen's conventions.
During their retirement years they baked peppernuts during the Christmas season and sent them as far away as California and Washington D.C.
The couple celebrated their 50th, 60th, and 65th wedding anniversaries. They were married 68 years when her husband died.
No longer able to live at home, Jost moved to Parkside Homes. She spent a year living with her daughter and family in Garden City. In November, she returned to live at Parkside until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, three sisters, and one granddaughter.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry and his wife Joan Jost and Lowell and his wife Eleanor Jost, all of Hillsboro; daughter, Twilla and her husband Charles Siebert of Garden City; two sisters-in-law, Louise Friesen and Kathryn Klassen; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 3 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastors Tim Sullivan and Roy Keller officiating. Burial was at Gnadenau Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.
A memorial fund has been established with the Women's Missionary Society.
