Main Street Event to end Threshing Days

Editor's note: This is the second in a series of three articles highlighting the 2002 Threshing Days. See next week's issue for a complete listing and schedule of all events and activities.

The Main Street Event from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Aug. 4 on Main Street will rap up the celebration of the 2002 Goessel Threshing Days, which runs Aug. 2 through Aug. 4. There is no admittance fee for the evening, and the public is invited.

Prior to the evening's entertainment, there will be a cookie contest for all ages in the city building. Entries should be in between 4 and 5 p.m. In addition, there will be a classic car show and a dunk tank.

Joyful Noise Childcare Centerwill serve a meal, and several area churches will have food booths set up in the vicinity of Main Street.

The musical entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. with the Hieberts Dulcimers Etc., a husband and wife duo from Abilene. They will perform a variety of musical selections accompanied by a varying combination of dulcimer, guitar, and autoharp. Their repertoire is a blend of folk tunes, work songs, gospel music, ragtime, waltzes, cowboy songs, old-time fiddle tunes, movie themes and popular songs. The Hieberts have performed throughout Kansas, a number of other states, Canada and Japan.

Cactus Jack country band will perform on Main Street at 8 p.m. Cactus Jack is one of the longest running country music acts in Central Kansas and has performed at Goessel's Main Street Event for several years. The band includes Kim Schmidt of Goessel, Bob Griffis, Ashley Griffis, and Allen Mokovec.
