Main Street Minute

Sometimes we look back and wonder about people who touched us in different ways. Recently, Lillian Bookless, MSM Director, received a card from a former sojourner.

Jane, (not her real name) was a young woman from a dysfunctional family. She was a fifth year student at Tabor and seemed quite determined to finish school. In need of financial, emotional, and spiritual support, she turned to MSM.

Jane was a challenge! She was opinionated, stubborn, and resistant to authority. Our interaction with her was stormy, and at times Lillian and the staff felt they were ineffective in reaching Jane on any level.

In fact, it seemed that Jane had an unteachable spirit. Lillian and the staff spent time in earnest prayer for this young woman. They also prayed that God would give them the stamina and patience to deal with her fairly and effectively.

Jane's year at MSM came and went. When asked if she felt God had touched her through MSM that year, she said that He had, and that without MSM she never would have finished school. Then, she was gone!

A few months ago, Lillian received a card from Jane. Jane is now married and living in another state. She made it clear in her note that MSM had touched her life in a special way and thanked Lillian and her staff for being diligent and faithful. She was so glad they had not given up on her.

When I spoke of this with Lillian, she said, "You know, in the seed planting business, sometimes there is so much manure, you can't see the roots that are reaching down into the soil."

Good planting Lillian!

We at MSM would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in 2006. In 2007, we will be bringing you more stories and information about how God is changing lives and reaching the needy through MSM.
