Man dies, wife injured in collision

A Marion man was killed and his wife critically injured Nov. 21, in a two-car collision caused by a driver running a stop sign.

Richard L. Barber, 71, was driving a 2001 Ford passenger car eastbound on 190th Road. Douglas E. Gable, 44, Herington, was driving a 1976 Dodge station wagon southbound on Nighthawk Road and ran the stop sign. Impact of te collision caused Barber and passenger Frances E. Barber, 67, Marion, to be ejected from their vehicle. The vehicle flipped and landed upside down in a field.

At press time, Frances Barber was in critical but stable condition at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, and Gable was in good condition at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis campus, Wichita. Richard Barber died at the scene.
