Marie Jost
Marie Jost, 89, of Hillsboro died June 10, 2004, at Bethesda Home in Goessel.
Born April 26, 1915, in Buhler, she was the daughter of David J. and Tina (Reimer) Franz. Her mother died when Marie was 12, and she took on parenting responsibilities for her younger siblings until her father remarried.
She grew up on the family farm in the Buhler area and attended public schools. Later she attended Tabor College where she met her future husband, Harold B. Jost. They were married on April 25, 1943 in Buhler. He survives.
She taught at Hope Valley.
She was a homemaker and mother. She taught Sunday school for adult groups at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church, worked for a number of years at Mennonite Brethren Publishing House, and volunteered at the Etcetera shop.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother; brothers, Elbert and John Franz; and stepbrothers, Bill and Art Flaming.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Howard and wife Shanti of Calcutta, India, and Loren and wife Katy of Riverton, Wyo.; daughters, Annette and Wayne Albrecht of Richardson, Texas, and Christine and Sid Harms of San Mateo, Calif; sisters, Margaret Ratzlaff and Rubena Suderman; brother, Bob Franz; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, June 14, at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Tim Sullivan officiating. Burial was at Gnadenau Cemetery preceding the ceremony.
A memorial has been established with the Women's Missionary Society of Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.
