Marion County 2004 youth survey data reported years ago
Kansas Communities That Care recently released results of the 2004 behavioral survey sixth, eighth, 10th, and 12th graders.
Marion County results are published here and tabulate percent of responses of "at least once" to questions about students' behavior in one 30-day period. At-risk behavior in the county is lower than in the state overall.
Question: On how many occasions (if any) have you sniffed glue, breathed the contents of an aerosol spray can, or A inhaled other gases or sprays in order to get high? Results: 3 percent at least once, down from 3.3 in 2003, 4.5 percent statewide.
Question: On how many occasions (if any) have you used marijuana? Results: 7.3 percent at least once, up from 4.8 in 2003, 9.5 percent statewide.
Question: On how many occasions (if any) have you had beer, wine, or hard liquor? Result: 25.2 percent at least once, up from 24.8 in 2003, 32.2 percent statewide.
Question: How frequently have you smoked cigarettes? Result: 8.9 percent at least once, down from 9.2 in 2003, 13.2 percent statewide.
A response of "at least one time" usually indicates regular usage. The overall trend in Marion County youth is a decrease, a more specific look at the data reveals a yearly increase in those behaviors by those in sixth through eighth grade.
