Marion County Fair offers family day

It's Marion County Fair time again, and this year's theme is "Let the Good Times Soar in 2004!" The fair will run from Wednesday, Aug. 4, through Saturday, Aug. 7, and will include the usual carnival amusements, food, and exhibits plus more family entertainment on Saturday.
The big thing this year, according to Megan Kilgore, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Director, is family day. Saturday will be family day with more events for children and adults as well as carnival wristbands. For $10 the wristband allows carnival goers to ride all the rides they want to from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday.
Wednesday from noon until 10 p.m. there will be National Guard rock climbing, at 6:30 p.m. a parade will go from North Ash to D Street to the fair grounds, and a watermelon feed and commissioner's cookie jar will be at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the pavilion.
Thursday the 4-H judging begins. The dairy show begins at 9 a.m. and dairy cattle show at 1 p.m. The day also includes National Guard rock climbing from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., horseshoe pitching tournament at 7 p.m., and bucket calf and beef show at 7 p.m.
The rodeo will be Wednesday and Thursday nights and will include mutton busting, mini bull riding, and a calf scramble for the kids.
Friday morning's activities start at 9 a.m. with the swine show. The 4-H livestock premium sale begins at 6:30 p.m., and the women's ranch rodeo at 7:15 p.m. in the arena.
Saturday is family day. Young eagles are offering free airplane rides from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the airport for ages 7 through 18, with parental permission. The 4-H round robin is at 10 a.m., FFA petting zoo from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., a puppet show at 2:30 p.m., bagpipers at 3 p.m., Van De Creek pedal pull at 4:30 p.m., and the demolition derby at 7 p.m.
