Marion County woman confirmed victim of West Nile Virus

A 76-year-old resident of Marion County is among the latest confirmed cases of West Nile virus meningitis or encephalitis in the state, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Monday.

The onset of the female's viral illness is listed as Sept. 15.

Three other cases were confirmed Monday, bringing the total number of cases in humans in Kansas to 53.

The other three are a 36-year-old in Dickinson County, a 75-year-old in Sedgwick County, and a 66-year-old in Shawnee County.

Eighty-three of Kansas' 105 counties have reported WNV activity in animals, mosquitoes, or humans.

A Marion County case was confirmed by physicians on Sept. 16, but KDHE has not listed it as a confirmed case.
