Martha Frantz
Martha Senner Frantz, 90, died Nov. 19, 2003, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.
Born March 13, 1913, on the family farm near Tampa, she was the daughter of David and Anna (Schwemmer) Senner.
On Aug. 14, 1934, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized by Rev. Peter Nickel. She became a member of the Tampa Mennonite Brethren Church.
On Aug. 19, 1934, she was married to Eldo Frantz by Rev. Peter Nickel at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.
The couple farmed north of Durham until 1945 when they moved to Durham to operate a grocery store. In 1955, they moved to Hillsboro and in 1956, they became members, of the Gnadenau (Parkview) Mennonite Brethren Church.
For a number of years, she was employed as a cook at the Guest House and the Iron Kettle in Hillsboro.
In 1980, she became one of the first residents at Grand Oaks Apartments.
In June of 2001, she moved to Parkside Homes.
She spent hours embroidering and cross-stitching.
She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, and her parents.
Survivors include her children: Joyce and her husband James Thiessen of Hillsboro, Lois and her husband Allen Hiebert of Hillsboro, Dean and his wife Rita of San Angelo, Texas, Judy Vogt of Newton, Jim Frantz of Denver, Colo., Betty and her husband Lloyd Mears of Albany, Ga., Juanita and her husband Ray Mears of Albany, Ga., Tom and his wife Brenda of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters, Ida Frantz of Hillsboro, Anna Mae Goertz of Durham, and Jeanette Schimming of Herington; brother, Larry Senner of Abilene; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church with pastors Tim Sullivan and Roy Keller officiating. Burial was at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established with Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.
