Martin Jantz
Martin L. Jantz, 80, Marion, died Feb. 13, 2002, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.
Born Oct. 23, 1921, in Glendive, Mont., to Peter and Mary (Thomas) Jantz. He and his parents moved to Hillsboro when he was about seven years old. He accept Christ as his savior, was baptized and joined the First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.
He attended grade school and high school in Hillsboro, graduating in 1941. He farmed with his dad for a short time. He worked for Groening Motors in Hillsboro entering construction work in Marion. He also worked for Riddle Quarry, Hallett Construction and Martin Marietta.
In 1944 he married Helen Wunsch of Marion. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and traveling. He was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church and served on various committees.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, Dick, Frank and Arthur; and sisters, Eva Nickel and Lorena Wedel.
Survivors include his wife of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Jantz of Arkansas City; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Mike Bell of Olathe; brother, Paul Jantz of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; sisters, Lydia Duerksen of Hillsboro, Ruth Suderman of Newton, and Susie Yeakel of Denair, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 16, 2002, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion with Revs. John Goering and Marilyn Cox officiating. Burial was at Marion Cemetery in Marion.
Casket bearers were Tyler Jantz, Bryan Chestnut, Gary Duerksen, Glenn Carlson, Dennis Winkler and James Jantz. Honorary casket bearers were Ed Hein, Bob Brookens, Royal Smith, Warren Woerz, Harold Carlson and Pat McCann.
A memorial fund has been established with Eastmoor United Methodist Memorial Fund.
