Mayor Dalke will seek another term
By noon Tuesday, Hillsboro Mayor Delores Dalke was the only candidate for mayor and three others are seeking two council seats.
In Hillsboro ward one/west, Robert Watson is the only candidate for the seat currently held by Len Coryea. Incumbent Matt Hiebert and candidate Shane Marler are seeking the seat in ward two/east.
These candidates will face off in the April 3 general election.
Board members of USD 411 are seeking re-election without opposition. They are: position one: Debra Geis; position two: Dale W. Klassen; position three: Mark Rooker; and position seven (at-large) Roderick Koons.
In other city positions, the following candidates have filed:
— Marion — mayor: Martin Tice (I), Nick Nickelson, Mary Olson, and David Colburn.
Since there are more than two competing for the office, there will be a primary election Feb. 27. The top two vote-getters then will move on to the general election.
A primary election is required if there is more than twice as many candidates as there are positions.
Candidates for USD 408 are: position one: Christopher Sprowls (I); position two Kathy Meierhoff (I); position three: Ronald Kirkpatrick Jr.; position seven (at-large); Sarah Cope (I).
In other city positions, the following candidates have filed:
— Peabody — councilman Edmund Slocombe has filed for mayor. Council: Steven Rose (I), Mitch Cunningham, and Larry Larsen. There are three open positions.
— Florence — mayor: Greg Winn; ward one: Dan Ludwig (I), Venetia L. Miller, Joe Cleverly and Dorothy Cleverly; ward two: Gary Nesser and Trayce Warner have filed for council positions in ward two which is held by Ed Robinson.
— Goessel — council: Anton H. Epp, Ricky Freeman (I), James Wiens (I), and Dwayne Duerksen (I). There are three open positions.
— Lincolnville — council: Sherry Pankratz (I) and Dawn Kaiser (I). There are three open positions.
