Menno Schmidt
Menno S. Schmidt, 80, of Newton died May 17, 2002, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
Born March 23, 1922, at Goessel, he was the son of Peter F. and Elizabeth Pankratz Schmidt.
On July 23, 1945, at Newton, he married Evelyn Zook. She survives at Kansas Christian Home.
He was a retired roofer and carpenter for many years in the Newton area. He also ran a lawn mowing service for many years.
He was known in the area for his recycling of used newspapers for the wallboard and wholesale floral industries.
He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene of Newton. He was active in the men's prayer breakfast, Caravan program, and taught junior boys in Sunday school.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jacob and John Schmidt.
Survivors include his wife of Newton; son, Larry Schmidt of Newton; daughters, Karen Etter and Vickie Kochenower, both of Newton; brother, Marvin Schmidt of Wichita; sister, Selma Classen of Manitowac, Wis.; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Bernie Dickson officiating. Burial was at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.
Memorials have been established with First Church of the Nazarene and Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
