Mennonites wanted for research study
The Kansas Nutrition Project researchers will conduct their first clinic from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 22, at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel.
There will be screening tests done for scrum lipids (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglyercerides) and anthropometrics (BMI) and collecting genealogy, medical, and nutritional intake profiles.
To participate, you must fast overnight before giving the blood sample.
This is a part of research program funded by a settlement against vitamin companies by the State Attorney General's office. The project examines the relationship of blood lipids, nutrition, activity patterns, and genetics as they affect the risk of chronic diseases. Dietary forms will be sent home with each participant. Feedback to all individuals will include the serum lipids results and a complete nutritional evaluation.
Dr. M.J. Mosher and Dr. Michael Crawford from the University of Kansas are in charge of the research project.
