MHS grad dies in accident
Marion High School graduate Stephen Bowers died early Saturday morning in a one-car rollover accident in Manhattan.
According to Riley County Police Lt. Josh Kyle, the rollover occurred at about 1:33 a.m.
Bowers was a passenger in a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Prashant Patel, 21, of Manhattan, that left the roadway and overturned. Bowers, and a third occupant, Robert Hernandez, 20, of Manhattan were ejected from the vehicle.
Bowers was transported to Mercy Health Center-College, where he died as a result of his injuries.
Patel was admitted to Mercy Health Center-College for a laceration to his scalp. Hernandez was initially transported to Mercy Health Center-College, and then transported by helicopter to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was reported in serious condition.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor and the accident remains under investigation, said Kyle.
Bowers is a 2004 graduate and the son of Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Marion. A graveside service was held Wednesday, followed by a memorial service.
