Middle school upends Smoky Valley
Hillsboro Middle School eighth grade football team trounced Smoky Valley Thursday at home, 38-6.
Offensively, the Trojans scored in each quarter while holding Smoky Valley to one touchdown.
Isaac Leihy scored in the first quarter on a 27-yard pass from quarterback Daniel Jost and carried the ball in for the two-point conversion.
In the second quarter, Jost scored on a 24-yard run but the PAT failed.
Leihy scored again in the third quarter on a 69-yard run and Justin Wodke scored the two-point conversion on a three-yard pass from Jost.
In the fourth quarter, Matthew Klenda scored on a 52-yard run and Jost ran the ball in for the PAT. Three minutes later, Klenda scored on a two-yard run and Leihy ran in the PAT.
Jost carried the ball seven times for 96 yards, one touchdown, and one PAT; Leihy, eight for 105 yards, one touchdown, two PATs; Klenda, six for 98 and two touchdowns; Ishmael Morris, two for 21; and Landon Unruh, one for three.
Jost completed three of five passes for 49 yards. Leihy was two for 46 in receiving; Wodke, one for three.
Defensively, Jost and Brandon Brown led the team with seven tackles each.
The seventh grade football team defeated Smoky Valley 20-8.
Nathan Vogel scored on a 63-yard run in the first quarter and carried the ball in for the two-point conversion. Vogel scored again in the second quarter on a 35-yard run but the point after attempt was no good.
Christopher Couts scored on a 48-yard run in the third quarter and the point after attempt was no good.
Vogel had 16 carries for 121 yards, two touchdowns, and one PAT. Couts had three carries for 50 yards and one touchdown. The Trojans were led defensively by Elias Krause with 11.5 tackles and Couts with 7.5 tackles. Vogel had one fumble recovery.
The middle school plays at 5 p.m. today at Halstead.
