Mike Childs Sr.
Former Marion County sheriff Mike Jay Childs Sr., 60, died Jan. 15, 2005, at McPherson.
Born Nov. 4, 1944, at Santa Ana, Calif., he was the son of Edson and Naomi (Crandall) Childs.
He attended Marion schools and graduated from Marion High School in 1962.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 as an SP5, stationed in Fort Carson, Colo. He received the National Defense Service Medal.
He worked for Arrowhead Ranch in Wyoming before beginning a career in law enforcement.
He worked as a deputy sheriff, undersheriff, and sheriff of Marion County for many years. He then worked quality control for Martin-Marietta Aggregates.
He was a member of Hillsboro American Legion Post 366.
Survivors include a son, Mike Childs Jr. of Lehigh; a sister, Marsha Postar of Albuquerque, N.M., and a brother, Mark Childs of McPherson.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park, Hillsboro.
A memorial fund has been established with Central Homecare and Hospice.
