Mildred Hanneman
Mildred (Millie) D. Hanneman, 82, of Hillsboro died Sept. 20, 2004, of heart failure at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
Born May 21, 1922, at Durham, she was the daughter of Elmer and Pearl (Spring) Frick.
At age 14, she accepted the Lord as her Savior. She attended school in Durham and graduated from Durham High School in 1940.
After high school, she worked at several jobs before she became a waitress from 1942-1944 at the Fred Harvey House at Newton Depot in Newton. It was there that she served the World War II troop trains.
On Feb. 4, 1954, she married Wilbur Hanneman at the First Baptist Church in Durham. He survives.
The couple lived on a farm northwest of Peabody where she was a homemaker.
They were active at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church for 35 years. They also helped start and attended the Peabody Bible Church for seven and half years.
In 1986, the couple moved from the farm to Hillsboro. They became members of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.
Millie volunteered at the Et Cetera Shop, Hillsboro Senior Center, and the Gideons, and was involved until her death.
Survivors include her husband of the home; sons, Delbert and his wife Becky Hanneman of Wichita and Keith Hanneman of Lancaster, Pa.; daughter, Elaine and her husband Frank Nelson of Kansas City and Gloria Hanneman of Wichita; sister, Frances and her husband Ollie Unruh of Hillsboro; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Friday at Trinity Mennonite Church with Pastor Bruce Porter officiating. Burial was at Frick Cemetery, rural Durham.
A memorial has been established with Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church to replace the communion set.
