Mill builder to visit museum
A unique opportunity awaits Hillsboro residents and area museum and mill enthusiasts.
Paul Friesen of Reedley, Calif., one of the principal Friesen Mill builders, will be in Hillsboro from Thursday until Tuesday.
Friesen will assist the museum Thursday and Friday to tuneup the mill, remove the runner stone and inspect the bed stone, grease bearings, and make any necessary repairs. The museum will be open to the public and the Friesen mill will be demonstrated from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, 501 S. Ash, Hillsboro.
Operator training sessions will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Space is limited to 20 participants for the operator training. Contact the museum at (620) 947-3775 to sign up for the training.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for people in the local community to learn more about how the Friesen mill works," Stan Harder, museums director, said. "We hope that this experience will encourage volunteers who desire to share the ancient art of milling with visitors from the community and around the world."
