Ministry needs food, funds

Recently I was thinking about some of the people who receive assistance from Main Street Ministries, and wondered what would have happened to them if our services were not available.

One of our clients, a young mother whose husband is no longer on the scene, has children who need to be fed, clothed, protected, nurtured, and sheltered. Her income isn't sufficient to meet the needs of her family. She faces the awesome task of raising her children alone. She needs help.

A young man has a substance abuse problem. Perhaps his family has given up on him, or, maybe there is no family. He has friends, but most of them have the same substance abuse problem. He wants to stop, but there is no support system in place to assist him. He needs help, too.

Then there's the couple whose home was destroyed by fire. They don't have a toothbrush or a comb! Everything was lost. They're grateful to be alive, but they need help.

So, too, does the young woman who suddenly finds herself pregnant and alone.

Because of those who support Main Street Ministries with your contributions of money, food, furniture, volunteer hours, and, of course, prayer, we're able to help. Because of God's generous and dedicated people, we can do it.

Last week, the food bank was able to assist 62 people with urgent needs. We currently house three single moms, four men, and nine children.

Thursdays at 7 p.m. we provide counseling assistance for those recovering from substance abuse. If you know someone who is seeking assistance in this area, please encourage them to attend.

Currently, we need a love seat, a small refrigerator, and a small gas range. The food bank needs ketchup, mustard, jam, jelly, complete pancake mixes, syrup, canned soup, canned milk, canned meat, ground coffee, and small bottles of dish washing and laundry detergent. We also need of feminine hygiene products.

Due to the extreme cold, we also have a need for financial support to meet the rising cost of utilities. We are located at 415 S. Main, and our phone number is (620) 947-3393.
