All-star teams are popping up all over the area. And it's no different for the 14-and-under State Babe Ruth Tournament team.
Twelve 14-year-olds from the Cottonwood Valley League are joining forces in hopes of capturing the state title. But if that doesn't happen, head coach Justin Moore will be OK with it.
"This is a great opportunity for the guys to play in a state tournament and the most important thing I want them to do is have fun and savor the moment," said Moore. "If we win some games that's good and if we win the state tournament that's good. But most of all I want the guys to enjoy the game and the moment."
Moore has been coaching for two years. This year he was in charge of creating the all-star team.
The team, consisting of boys from Chase County, Marion, Hillsboro, and Peabody, will play their first game at 8 p.m. July 25 at the Hillsboro Baseball/Softball Complex.
Other coaches are Chad Hughbanks, who helped Moore coach last year, and Clayton Garnica.
Boys on the all-star team are Luke Moore, Mitchell Day, Derek Kelsey, and Lucas Sinclair, all of Hillsboro; Bret Mueller of Tampa; Dakin Ledford, Cole Lewman, and Matt Sprowls of Marion; Ty Molens, A.J. Davis, Tanner Line, and Dylan Kelsheimer of Chase County; and Matt Hiebert of Peabody.
