More voting methods
The countdown is on: As of Thursday, there are just six days left until election day — Tuesday, Nov. 5
You know you should vote. You've heard the admonition everywhere, from the paper to the smiling anchors on TV.
But did you know that you don't have to wait until Nov. 5 to vote?
You can vote today.
All you need is an advance voting ballot.
The process goes like this: Drive to the county clerk's office, located inside the Marion County Courthouse. After you fill out an application, you'll receive an advance voting ballot.
Once you have the ballot in hand, you can choose to vote right there, on the spot. The clerk's office already has booths set up for you.
Or, you may choose to take the ballot home so you can mull the decision over a little while. In that case, you have until the polls close on Tuesday to hand in your ballot to the county courthouse. You can also mail it there.
If you want to take this option, you'll have to act quickly — the clerk's office stops handing out advance ballots after noon on Friday.
And it's important to get your ballot in before the Tuesday deadline at the courthouse, or else your vote won't be counted.
Advance ballots are a great idea. They're for anyone who knows they'll be super-busy on election day and may not have time to make it to the polls. Or they're for anyone who likes to get things done ahead of time.
Regardless of the reason, one thing is clear: We have no excuse for failing to cast our votes come Tuesday.
See you at the polls.
